We are postponing ROBO Opportunity: Boston because of unfortunate
scheduling by the Massachusetts Robotics Cluster of meetings with the
government officials in charge of deciding which innovative technology
companies will receive the millions of dollars being distributed by
Obama's stimulus plan, beginning at noon next Tuesday. Not only do we
need to attend that meeting, but a number of those who would like to
attend ROBO Opportunity also have to attend.

Robotics Roadshow Offers ROBO Opportunity in Growth Markets

MobileRobots Inc is taking to the road – in Boston, Detroit, Dallas, Santa Clara and Orlando -- to share its success with businesses and job-seekers looking for growth. MobileRobots’ ROBO Opportunity Roadshow is touring the US to promote the dozens of applications now and the tens of thousands of jobs expected to develop over the next decade in the field of mobile robots. Mobile robots, by the way, are the ones that drive around by themselves and talk, not the industrial arms used to build automobiles.
The public is familiar with only a few mobile robots, like household vacuums and military bomb-defusers. More sophisticated autonomous commercial robots have remained tightly controlled competitive secrets. However, the secrets are getting out, with developers building robotic applications for: facility operation, security, risk reduction, compliance verification, enterprise intelligence, flexible manufacturing, asset tracking, inspection, remote operations, eldercare, disability independence and hundreds of other uses.
When asked, “Why a robot roadshow now?” Sales Director Steven O’Leary replies, “In this economy, companies and job-seekers are desperate to gain an edge. When we held a trial run of the roadshow at our offices, over 200 people applied for ten slots. And it’s no wonder. One of our customers has already signed more business this year than all of 2008. Another first-time VAR is expecting orders for 50-100. We’re projecting growth of at least 100%.”
CTO William Kennedy answers differently, “Intelligent robots are now ready for prime time. When our company began, 14 years ago, PhD’s like me had to program every action. Now non-programmers can task our robots to perform complex functions with simple point-n-click software. They can even customize robots’ personalities with voice, sounds, “friendliness”, “cautiousness” and other characteristics.”
The ROBO Opportunity Roadshow will focus on applications up and running today and the business and career opportunities surrounding them, but it also paints a timeline for how today’s entrepreneurs are laying the groundwork for tomorrow’s exponential job growth, in areas such as:
- Healthcare and laboratories
- Security integration, asset tracking and protection services
- Manufacturing, inspection and testing
- Facilities management and environmental monitoring
- Hotel and hospitality
- Communications
- Enterprise knowledge management
The ROBO Opportunity Roadshow will be in Boston, April 14, 9AM-4PM at the Back Bay Hilton. Registration is a cost-sensitive $195 for the day-long event, including continental breakfast and lunch. Six companies will describe their commercial robot applications already in use and a dozen more applications about to be adopted. The Roadshow will move to Detroit, June; Dallas, September; Santa Clara, October and Orlando in December.
